A Priceless Inheritance
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade kept in heaven for you." (1 Peter 1:3-4 NIV)
When the founders of early America decided to break away from the mother country of Great Britain and form a better country, they felt compelled to explain to future generations the reasons for their actions.The document known as The Declaration of Independence sets forth these matters.
One sentence in the Preamble makes a powerful statement regarding their views about basic human rights. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Every man or woman of any race can feel the sense of belonging and dream of noble purposes for their lives when succeeding generations of Americans insist upon these ideals.Citizens who sincerely believe in these basic principles will not be afraid to walk confidently as a prince or princess.
Sadly, human beings are not always able to police themselves and their heirs to be obedient to the wisdom of their ancestors.One child may be born into a home with parents who have more than enough wealth to provide all basic needs of the child including good food, housing, the best education and a good start in a profession or business.This child will expect and demand the best and will wonder what is wrong with those people on the other side of town.
On the other hand, another child born in the same United States may come home to parents who both struggle to survive. This child will not always have enough food and may live in sub-standard housing.The pursuit of happiness takes on a completely different meaning for this child who will grow up knowing only the day to day obligation of hard work, low pay and little hope for anything better.
However ~ In the Kingdom of Christ, all who come to Jesus for salvation whether from a rich home or from squalor, we are one in Christ.Together, we all can walk with the swagger of the child of a King.Our inheritance is beyond all human comprehension!We live in expectation of eternal life in Gods ~David Binkley
